How To Set Up Your Blog For Monetization

By Leila

So you're a blogger and you've been writing for a while now and you figured out that it's time to monetize your craft.

The question on your mind is… How and where do I begin?

Well… not long ago, I was in your position. No clue of how to start, reading blogs, subscribing to newsletters and courses that didn't yield much.

I was frustrated! 😣

As time went by, I refused to give up and kept figuring out how to make money from my writing.

My dream finally actualized and it has been an amazing journey!

I would like to share some tips to help a blogger who would like to make use of their writing and add a stream of income from it.

Before monetizing your writing gift, is your blog prepared to get paid?

Well… let's set it up with these 6 essential requirements:

    1. Be clear about your niche

Clarity of niche is important to connecting you with brands that align to what you write about.

When brands place an ad for content writers or creators, they specify what niche they're looking for.

They will go ahead to request for your blog address to confirm that it aligns with their expectations.

Once confirmed, they will reach out for a collab and you'll be on your way to get paid!

     2. Post consistently

As brands go through your blog, they look at dates of posts to ascertain its consistency. This is because they too understand that you value your readers, followers or viewers by keeping them engaged with your content.

If you post consistently, it shows that you take your work seriously.

     3. Promote your blog to increase traffic

Blog statistics give you an upper hand in getting approved for paid partnerships.

Promote your blog regularly to increase visibility and attract readers.

Owning a blog is like owning a business… For it to make money, marketing is crucial.

Additionally, brands always ask for blog statistics in order to consider it for partnership.

      4. Create a media kit

A media kit is your blog resume. It shows who you are, what you write about, blog and social media statistics, brands you have worked with or websites you have written for, client or readers' testimonials and contact information.

When pitching to brands, your media kit will increase the chances of brands considering a partnership with you.

The word they use when requesting for it is portfolio

Ensure that your media kit is:

  • Professional
  • Appealing by use of colors
  • Has no grammatical errors
  • Simple and easy to navigate
  • Organized
  • Add images (Canva.com is a good source)
  • Clearly shows the services you offer and the rates

    5. Do more guest posts

Collaborating with other blogs for guest article features is a great way to show brands that you are a team player and good to partner with.

Additionally, ask the blog owners to write you a recommendation which you can add to the testimonial section of your media kit.

     6. Get active on LinkedIn and Instagram

Brands always ask for social media platforms and nowadays, Instagram is the most influential platform.

Create an Instagram account for your blog and get it active. It will make you some money.

LinkedIn is another important platform to be on. It allows you to connect with other professionals and to present yourself as a professional content creator.

Brands will always ask for your LinkedIn profile to check out how you package yourself in a professional way.

Additionally, brands also reach out for partnerships on LinkedIn.

We have worked with great brands who reached out to us on LinkedIn.
